An experienced educator, coach, trainer and facilitator, providing consulting and training in marketing, sales, negotiations, communications and intercultural relations for corporate, non-profit and higher education clients.

Prior to launching SMA, Shelley was a marketing and sales executive for RealNetworks, Disney/Starwave and the Seattle SuperSonics. She also has experience as a broadcast journalist and air personality for NBC, ABC and KZAM.

Shelley’s academic credentials include a BA in Communications, a Masters in Teaching and a Masters in Intercultural Relations.

She lives in Seattle, Washington, where she and her husband own and run the Shirley Marvin Hotel in historic Columbia City.

Robert Brownlow, Ed.D.

Dr. Bob has led initiatives in Cultural Diversity and Inclusion, Employee Engagement, Union Relations, Training and Organizational Effectiveness, Human Resources, and process engineering. 

His focus has been on Leadership and Cross Cultural Engagement; applying research to achieving meaningful results.

He has overseen affinity groups, diversity councils, cross cultural teams, and diverse business support groups to meet marketing and production objectives.

He’s partnered with executives from America, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, The People’s Republic of China, Russia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

His career has followed both academic and business pathways and is recognized for applying research to real world of leadership where there are few easy answers.

He has taught from the community college to the post doctoral level and has taught students from around the world.  

His research includes: the structure and integration of cultural diversity; racial/ethnic archetypes; cross cultural engagement; crisis management; critical thinking; organizational change; project management; and engineering management.

He has conducted curriculum and program evaluation and published and spoken at conferences and received teaching and research awards.

He has served as Principal Faculty at City University of Seattle, a Visiting Scholar at Capella University and a Professor of Global Urban Leadership and Cross Cultural Engagement at Bakke Graduate University.

He advises social justice groups and serves on the editorial board for the Independent Journal of Management and Production, the Journal of Aussie-Sino Studies and the Cultural Studies Open Access Journal.

Dr. Bob possesses a doctorate in Education Leadership; a MS in Project Management; a MA in Speech Communication; a MC in Human Performance Improvement in the Workplace and other credentials. 

His latest academic project is a leadership text, tentatively titled, “Leadership Parables.”


Ali Shami

Retired Boeing Senior Manager and founder/CEO at FTD Global; a Global Leadership Consulting company.

FTD Global associates stand by their customers to support their marketing, selling, producing products and services, as well as aftermarket services in the global market.

The associates are cultural experts who grew up outside the United States but understand the US culture very well.

Ali is a PEOPLE LEADER with a good balance of technical and leadership attributes.

– Extensive experience in working with international customers in Korea, England, and Italy.  

– Among the top 100 Boeing managers who scored the highest on the 2009 employee survey results
– Contributor to the success of the Boeing Leadership Program for 7 years
– Received numerous awards, such as the 2003 Diversity Excellence award, the 2004, 2010, and 2011 Global Diversity Change Agent awards,
– Chairperson of a Business Development Support Group Sales Team – 2011 Diversity Change Agent Award
-Produced the first audio material that introduces the Lebanese dialect which is spoken in the streets of Beirut. The Volume 1, 2, and 3 contained CDs and booklets and were sold in all continents.
